A Stop on the Silk Road

 

The Silk Road Chamber Orchestra under the directorship of Ismayil Hajiyev, the outstanding Azerbaijani conductor and composer and Garabagh Folk Music in Canada brought the excellent artistic highlight to the Niagara International Chamber Music Festival on August 14th.  The high quality of the artists, the excellent performance and the combination of natural beauty of Eastern and European music created a unique musical experience which was best expressed in the title of the concert program: ‘A Stop on the Silk Road.’

 

The works of well-known Azerbaijani composers Uzeyir Hajibeybov, Niyazi, Kara Karayev, Jovdat Hajiyev amazed the spectators. The outstanding Canadian musicians such as Atis Bankas (violin), P. Cosby (cello), N. Rogers (soprano), Rie Watanabe (violin), etc. successfully performed Overture Koroglu, Duetto form Opera ‘Arshin Mal Alan’, Aarazbari by U. Hajibeyov, Ballade by J. Hajiyev, Adagio and Waltz from the ballet ‘Seven Beauties’ by Kara Karayev, March by V. Mustafazadeh, etc.

 

The performance of well-known Azerbaijani pianist Yeganeh Akhundova, the folk music by Akbar Majidov, Ramin Shadpour, Mokhtar Noubar and AliPersyan Mugam, etc. also presented Azerbaijani music and heritage and brought the wonderful experience to the program.
